- 250 ml water
- 150 g all-purpose flour
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 1 tbsp olive oil or sunflower oil
- 1 liter vegetable oil for frying
- 3 tbsp sugar
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 100 g dark chocolate, chopped
- 300 ml milk
- 1 tbsp cornstarch
Let’s make it
- Bring water, 1 tbsp oil, and salt to a boil. Remove from heat and stir in flour until a thick dough forms.
- Let the dough cool 5 minutes. Spoon into a piping bag with a star tip.
- Heat frying oil to 180 C/350 F. Pipe 10 cm lengths into the oil and fry 2–3 minutes per side until golden; drain well.
- Mix sugar and cinnamon and toss warm churros in it. For the chocolate, heat milk, whisk in cornstarch, then add chocolate and stir until thick. Serve warm.
Let kids help coat churros in cinnamon sugar once they have cooled slightly.
Cooking time varies with equipment and batch size. Follow school allergy rules for children’s meals; keep perishable lunches cold.
