Oatmeal con canela y plátano

15 minutes · 2 servings · vegetarian

A very familiar Mexican-style breakfast inspired by atole flavors, using simple oats and cinnamon.

Ingredients

Check you have the quantities below.

  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 medium banana, sliced
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar or piloncillo
  • 1 pinch salt

Let’s make it

  1. Bring the milk, water, cinnamon, sugar, and salt to a gentle boil in a saucepan.
  2. Stir in the oats, reduce the heat, and cook for 5–7 minutes, stirring often.
  3. When thick and creamy, spoon into bowls and top with banana slices.
  4. Serve warm.

Let kids sprinkle the cinnamon or place the banana on top themselves.

Cooking time varies with equipment and batch size. Follow school allergy rules for children’s meals; keep perishable lunches cold.
