Check you have the quantities below.
- 400 g ready-made phyllo dough
- 2 cups walnuts, chopped
- 1 cup butter, melted
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/4 cup honey
- 1 tbsp lemon juice
Let’s make it
- Heat the oven to 180 C / 350 F and grease a baking dish.
- Layer phyllo sheets in the dish, brushing each sheet with butter, and sprinkle walnuts between several layers.
- Cut into diamonds, then bake for 40 to 45 minutes until crisp and golden.
- Simmer sugar, water, honey, and lemon juice for 5 minutes, then cool slightly.
- Pour the syrup over the hot baklava and cool completely before serving.
Cut into very small pieces for children because baklava is rich and sticky.
Cooking time varies with equipment and batch size. Follow school allergy rules for children’s meals; keep perishable lunches cold.
