40 minutes · 6 servings · vegetarian

Inspired by the famous sweet pastry, using store-bought puff pastry for a simpler home version.

Ingredients

Check you have the quantities below.

  • 1 sheet store-bought puff pastry, thawed
  • 1 cup mung bean paste
  • 1 cup taro, steamed and mashed
  • 3 tbsp sugar

  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds

Let’s make it

  1. Heat the oven to 400 F/200 C and line a tray with baking paper.
  2. Mix mung bean paste, taro, and sugar. Cut the pastry into squares and place a spoonful of filling in the center of each.
  3. Fold or seal the pastry, brush with egg, and sprinkle with sesame seeds.
  4. Bake for 18 to 20 minutes until golden.

Make smaller pastries for little hands and let them cool before serving.

Cooking time varies with equipment and batch size. Follow school allergy rules for children’s meals; keep perishable lunches cold.
