French toast with berries

20 minutes · 4 servings · vegetarian

A very common American weekend breakfast, finished with fresh fruit.

Ingredients

Check you have the quantities below.

  • 8 slices bread slices
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • for serving, about 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 1 1/2 cups mixed berries

Let’s make it

  1. Whisk eggs, milk, vanilla, and cinnamon in a shallow bowl.
  2. Dip each bread slice briefly in the custard, coating both sides.
  3. Melt butter in a skillet over medium heat and cook the bread 2 to 3 minutes per side until golden and the egg is fully set.
  4. Serve with berries and maple syrup.
  5. Wipe the pan between batches if needed so the toast browns evenly.

Cut the toast into sticks for easier dipping.

Cooking time varies with equipment and batch size. Follow school allergy rules for children’s meals; keep perishable lunches cold.
