Hotteok (Sweet Korean Pancakes)
45 minutes · 6 servings · vegetarian
Hotteok is a famous Korean street snack; this home version uses a short rise.
Ingredients
Check you have the quantities below.
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp instant yeast
- 1 tbsp sugar
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 3/4 cup warm water
- 2 tbsp neutral oil
- 1/3 cup brown sugar
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1/3 cup chopped walnuts or peanuts
Let’s make it
- Mix flour, yeast, sugar, salt, and warm water into a soft dough. Cover and let rise 20 minutes.
- Stir brown sugar, cinnamon, and nuts together.
- Divide dough into 6 pieces. Fill each with sugar mixture and pinch closed.
- Flatten gently and cook in lightly oiled skillet over medium-low heat, 2-3 minutes per side, until golden and cooked through. Serve warm.
Let the pancakes cool a little before serving because the filling gets very hot.
Cooking time varies with equipment and batch size. Follow school allergy rules for children’s meals; keep perishable lunches cold.
