Jacket Potato with Cheese and Beans

75 minutes · 4 servings · vegetarian

A standard British lunch or supper, made with a classic topping.

Ingredients

Check you have the quantities below.

  • 4 large baking potatoes
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 400 g baked beans
  • 120 g cheddar, grated
  • 40 g butter
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper

Let’s make it

  1. Heat the oven to 220 C/425 F. Rub the potatoes with oil and salt, then bake for 60-70 minutes until crisp outside and soft inside.
  2. Warm the beans in a saucepan.
  3. Split the potatoes, fluff up the insides with a fork, and add butter.
  4. Spoon over the beans and cheese, then season with a little pepper.
  5. Serve hot.

Add the cheese first and let the children spoon on the beans themselves.

Cooking time varies with equipment and batch size. Follow school allergy rules for children’s meals; keep perishable lunches cold.
