Polpette al sugo

45 minutes · 4 servings · omnivore

A familiar Italian meatball-in-sauce dish, common in many homes.

Ingredients

Check you have the quantities below.

  • 500 g ground beef
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 cup, grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 3 cups tomato sauce

Let’s make it

  1. Mix beef, breadcrumbs, egg, Parmesan, milk, salt, and pepper just until combined. Shape into 16 small meatballs.
  2. Brown the meatballs in olive oil over medium heat for 5 minutes, then transfer to a saucepan.
  3. Add tomato sauce, cover, and simmer 20 minutes until the meatballs reach 71 C / 160 F.
  4. Serve with pasta or bread.

Make the meatballs small so children can eat them easily with a fork.

Cooking time varies with equipment and batch size. Follow school allergy rules for children’s meals; keep perishable lunches cold.
