A very common Nigerian bakery-style snack made at home.

Ingredients

Check you have the quantities below.

  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup butter or margarine, cold
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup cold water
  • 8 sausages, casings removed
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 egg, beaten

Let’s make it

  1. Make a simple pastry by rubbing cold butter into flour and salt, then add water and chill 15 minutes.
  2. Mix sausage meat with onion powder and black pepper.
  3. Roll the pastry, cut into rectangles, place sausage filling inside, and seal into rolls.
  4. Brush with beaten egg and bake at 190 C/375 F for 25 to 30 minutes until golden and the filling is cooked through.
  5. Cool slightly and serve.

Cut each roll into shorter pieces for children.

Cooking time varies with equipment and batch size. Follow school allergy rules for children’s meals; keep perishable lunches cold.
