Ingredients
Check you have the quantities below.
- 500 g lamb mince
- 1 onion, chopped
- 2 carrots, diced
- 100 g frozen peas
- 1 tbsp tomato paste
- 250 ml beef or lamb stock
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 800 g potatoes, peeled and chopped
- 50 ml milk
- 25 g butter
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
Let’s make it
- Boil the potatoes in salted water for 15 minutes until tender, then drain and mash with milk and butter.
- Meanwhile cook the lamb and onion in a pan for 6-8 minutes until the lamb is no longer pink. Add carrots and cook 5 minutes more.
- Stir in tomato paste, stock, Worcestershire sauce, peas, salt and pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes until thick.
- Spoon into a baking dish and top with the mash. Rough up the surface with a fork.
- Bake at 200 C/400 F for 20-25 minutes until golden and bubbling.
Pipe or spoon the mash on top in small swirls so children can help decorate the pie.
Cooking time varies with equipment and batch size. Follow school allergy rules for children’s meals; keep perishable lunches cold.
