Steak Frites

35 minutes · 4 servings · omnivore

A very familiar French bistro staple, using store-bought fries for an easy home meal.

Ingredients

Check you have the quantities below.

  • 4 small steaks, about 1 1/2 lb / 680 g total sirloin or ribeye steaks
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 1 1/2 lb / 680 g frozen French fries or potato wedges
  • 1 tbsp optional parsley

Let’s make it

  1. Bake or air-fry the potatoes according to package directions until crisp and golden.
  2. Season the steaks with salt and pepper. Sear in oil over medium-high heat for 3 to 5 minutes per side for medium-rare, or longer to your liking, then rest 3 minutes.
  3. Add butter to the pan and spoon over the steaks briefly for flavor.
  4. Serve the steaks with the fries and parsley.

Cut the steak into thin strips before serving to children.

Cooking time varies with equipment and batch size. Follow school allergy rules for children’s meals; keep perishable lunches cold.
