Wonton Soup

45 minutes · 4 servings · omnivore

A standard Chinese soup using store-bought wrappers for convenience.

Ingredients

Check you have the quantities below.

  • 24 wonton wrappers
  • 8 oz / 225 g ground pork
  • 2 scallions, minced
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 1 tsp ginger, minced
  • 6 cups chicken broth
  • 2 cups spinach

Let’s make it

  1. Mix pork, scallions, soy sauce, sesame oil, and ginger. Place 1 tsp filling in each wrapper and seal with water.
  2. Bring broth to a simmer. In a separate pot, cook wontons 4–5 minutes until the filling reaches 71 C/160 F and they float.
  3. Add spinach to the broth and wilt for 30 seconds.
  4. Divide wontons among bowls, ladle broth over, and serve hot.

Make the wontons small and check that each one is sealed well before cooking.

Cooking time varies with equipment and batch size. Follow school allergy rules for children’s meals; keep perishable lunches cold.
