Yakisoba (Stir-Fried Noodles)

30 minutes · 4 servings · omnivore

A very common Japanese festival and home-style noodle dish.

Ingredients

Check you have the quantities below.

  • 14 oz / 400 g yakisoba noodles or thin wheat noodles
  • 8 oz / 225 g pork belly or thinly sliced pork
  • 3 cups cabbage, sliced
  • 1 medium carrot, julienned
  • 1/2 large onion, sliced
  • 1 tbsp neutral oil
  • 3 tbsp yakisoba sauce or Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp water

Let’s make it

  1. Cook or loosen the noodles according to package directions and set aside.
  2. Heat oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high and cook the pork until browned and cooked through.
  3. Add the onion, carrot, and cabbage and stir-fry 3-4 minutes until crisp-tender.
  4. Add the noodles, sauce, soy sauce, and water and toss until coated and hot.
  5. Serve immediately.

Cut the noodles shorter with kitchen scissors so they are easier for children to eat.

Cooking time varies with equipment and batch size. Follow school allergy rules for children’s meals; keep perishable lunches cold.
